Helleborus Berry Swirl (Lenten Rose), Helleborus’ Berry Swirl’, is an evergreen perennial whose petals contain soft brushstrokes of orchid shades, some with creamy-white centers, and are finely lined with an orchid edging. Because Hellebores flower in early spring during the Lenten season, they are called the Lenten Rose. Berry Swirl Lenten Rose adds beauty and color to shaded areas in borders or under trees as winter comes to an end. The double flowers are 2-3”across and bloom for about 3 months. These hellebores were hybridized by Marietta O’Byrne of Oregon. She only chooses the most profuse bloomers, and Berry Swirl made the cut in her breeding work. Berry Swirl has true color and is a vigorous grower that produces large flowers. This plant needs good drainage and fertile humus rich soil; use in mixed beds or as an understory. These lovely plants tolerate clay, and are drought and deer resistant..
